more about me.

I was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and moved to Florida when I was eight. In 2013, I came to New York City—and have called it home ever since. My immigrant values shape the backbone of my collaborative philosophy, guiding how I move through both creative and professional spaces.

Through my desserts, I aim to enrich cultural institutions that celebrate diversity and the arts—creating moments of warmth, authenticity, and belonging.

For over twelve years, I’ve worked in international policy, evaluating the effectiveness of global programs and campaigns. Today, I oversee operational planning and evaluation at Amnesty International. My approach to baking often mirrors the methodical rigor I bring to evaluation—discerning which parts of a recipe are fixed, and where there's room to innovate under the freedom of artistic license.

When developing new recipes, I draw inspiration from the places I’ve traveled. In the French Concession of Shanghai and Hanoi, I witnessed how beautifully European cuisines can merge with Eastern flavors. In Surabaya, earthy notes like sesame, pandan, and ube awakened my palate. The romantic alleys of Amman revived me with the richness of a rose-walnut baklava. Wandering through the Andes Mountains in Cusco, I developed a new profound love for chocolate—in all its depth, richness, and varying degrees of cocoa. After taking a chocolate-making class in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, I gained a deep appreciation for less processed, homegrown chocolate.

I discovered pavlovas at a restaurant in Berlin, and the interplay of textures—the crisp shell, airy center, and complex, fruity sweetness—changed me forever. I now believe that meringue can elevate just about anything: brownies, cakes, even sugar cookies.

Over the past decade, my dessert palate has evolved immensely. Trekking through the unknown has only deepened my desire to keep learning—because every corner of the earth has something to teach me.

Beyond the kitchen, I find purpose in curating soulful gatherings that foster connection and community. I stay grounded through a dedicated yoga practice and long-distance running. Music nurtures me—I find joy in discovering electic artists and DJs, particularly within New York’s melodic and Afro-house scenes. Those closest to me, tell me that I lead with an open heart and an awestruck wonder for the world.
